Cellar 22, a new all-day wine and charcuterie bar, located on Dublin's St. Stephen's Green. Tasked with reimagining the three establishments within no. 22, an elegant Georgian townhouse, a top restaurant and this basement wine bar, Cellar 22 is the first of these to open its doors.
The challenge was to bring the client's vision for a cosy, relaxed brasserie, a place to take the weight off one's feet while out shopping on nearby Grafton Street, to life in a modern and stylish way. The food on offer features small, delicious plates with an emphasis on charcuterie, all curated by head chef Chris Maguire.
CI Studio worked closely with the client and interior architects to craft a brand that would resonate with its customers in a friendly and engaging fashion. The visual language is defined by a palette of pinks, reds and neutrals that complement the many wines on offer and work in tandem with the rustic and eclectic interiors.
The typography is a mix of two complementary styles, one bursting with character and the other more industrial, both to work alongside the crudely etched illustrations that feature throughout items like menus and wall prints to bring a sense of charm to the space.
The logo is a typographic wordmark, designed to mimic the movement of steps leading down to the basement.
We curated the wall art, bringing together an eclectic mix of illustrative and photographic prints, all housed within a myriad of frame styles to further enhance the cheerful and unexpected mood of the space.
The voice of Cellar 22 was an important consideration as, to many people, the language around wine can sometimes be considered daunting. The introduction of our friendly sommelier Claude, housed in a wine barrel, along with some tongue-in-cheek banter, brought a more accessible tone to the brand. A place where being a wine connoisseur isn't a prerequisite.
With its location at basement level and to comply with historic building regulations, we designed the exterior signage solutions with these factors in mind when choosing materials and finishes. They range from built-up aluminium letters covered in gold leaf, to brass plates to charring wood with a burner to get the desired effect. This consideration of the finest details, gives the brand the premium feel it deserves.
